The Haverford School is looking for a full-time Director of our Learning Center for the 2018-2019 school year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads the Headmaster, administration, faculty and parents in acquiring knowledge of initiatives, teaching strategies, materials, programs, technology applications, and general issues in the area of learning differences.
  • Researches background information, gathers current information and develops an action plan for students requiring support services in consultation with the Director of Student Support Services/Assistant Headmaster.
  • Develops and implements a student referral system; meets with students to discuss action plans; coordinates outside assessment and assistance; communicates plan and assessment outcomes with faculty and maintains communication with families.
  • Supervises the registration and administration of PSAT, SAT I, SAT II, AP, ACT for students who qualify for nonstandard testing.
  • Supervises the duties of additional learning specialists in The Learning Center. Directs the learning specialists in applying the student profile model and ensures that they support and coordinate individualized teaching-learning strategies with the instructional program in the student’s regular classes through collaboration with teachers and advisors.
  • Develops the model for individualized profiles of students through interpretation of psycho-educational evaluations and on-going diagnostic-prescriptive teaching; ensures that recommendations are made for remediation, compensation, and accommodations as appropriate.
  • Coaches faculty on differentiated instruction.
  • Maintains professional standards of the department and sets yearly goals; supervises instruction in the department and participates in full and self-evaluations of Learning Center.
  • Serves as a member of the Department Chairs Committee.
  • Serves as a member of the Lower, Middle and Upper School Support Committees.
  • Serves as a member of the Middle and Upper School Admissions Committees and consults and advises the Director of Admission on the suitability of candidates.
  • Serves as a member of the Oversight Committee.
  • Supports the professional development of faculty by attending grade level meetings, department meetings, division meetings and staff meetings.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or post-graduate work in Education
  • A minimum of five years teaching and administration experience in an independent school environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills
  • An Expertise in teaching and learning
  • Prior knowledge or work with language based learning disabilities

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Works in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts
  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 15 lbs.
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled office environment
  • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
