The Haverford School is seeking a full-time Upper School Mathematics Teacher who has a strong background in mathematics, has demonstrated excellence in the instruction of mathematics, and has at least three years of teaching experience. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic professional who is able to engage students positively, is versatile enough to contribute to a math program that ranges from Algebra I to Calculus II and beyond, possesses mastery of math-related technology skills and tools, and is willing to become an active member of the community through advising co-curricular activities, coaching and advising students. Additionally, the candidate will have demonstrated a willingness to work collaboratively with other teachers, communicate effectively with parents, and provide differentiated and creative instruction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach four sections of Mathematics:
    • Prepare course materials such as syllabi, online homework assignments, course notes, and multi-media instructional aids
    • Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records
    • Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, and projects
    • Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction
    • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students
  • Participate in school evaluation and professional development programs
  • Advise students on academic and other matters in accordance with the School’s mission
  • Coach an athletic team and advise an extracurricular activity as assigned
  • Participate in some infrequent evening or weekend activities, including meetings, professional development, or other school activities
  • Other duties, as assigned

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Mathematics or a closely related subject
  • Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing, with colleagues and parents
  • Enthusiastic interest in teaching, motivating, coaching and mentoring high school students
  • Commitment to building 21st Century Teaching and Learning practices
  • Ability to meet classroom, advisory, and extra curricular obligations
  • Ability to attend meetings before and after the normal school day schedule and sometimes in the evening
  • Ability to comply with the requirements of a standard work week and meet co-curricular responsibilities before and after the normal daily/weekly schedule as required

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Works in an environment with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 15 lbs.
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled office environment
  • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
