Bob Connolly Named 2011
John Batley Award Recipient

April 11, 2011 - One of the traditional highlights of the PAISBOA Annual Meeting is the presentation of the John Batley Award, our highest honor. A former CFO of Westtown School, recipient of the Visionary Award, and the man for whom the John Batley Award was created, John’s legacy is one of selfless giving and inclusion in PAISBOA. We celebrate his character, competence, and consistency each year with the selection of the John Batley Award winner.

For 2011, the John Batley Award was presented to
Bob Connolly of Westtown School

Bob Connolly is the former Business Officer of Westtown School, and currently serving as Business Officer of Millbrook Academy in upstate New York. Bob held the position of Chair of the Employee Benefits Consortium (PAISIG) for 8 years, guiding the committee to make sweeping and proactive changes in health premium plan design options. Bob is best known for his original ballads as he delivered his message at the annual health insurance meeting. He also served on the Executive Committee of the PAISBOA Board.

During Bob’s 12 year tenure as Westtown’s business officer, he was instrumental in the expansion and modernization of the Lower and Middle Schools as well as renovations of the Field House. He played an integral part in Westtown’s bicentennial year of celebratory activities. One of his proudest accomplishments was that he was successful in closing a road through Westtown’s campus, making it a safer environment.

Prior to Westtown, Bob worked at Safeguard Business Systems which is a division of Deluxe Check. He finished his work there as the VP of HR and Administration. His undergraduate degree is from Penn State University and he did graduate work at Villanova University.

Bob has been married to his wife, Virginia, for 38 years and they have two children, Read and Candace. Read is carrying on the musical talents of his father, while his daughter has the business genes and is majoring in that field at Roanoke College. Prior to becoming a Business Officer, Bob was the Vice President for HR and Administration for Safeguard Business Systems.

Little known fact: Bob and his family designed and built a solar house in 1984.

This year’s ceremony was especially poignant as Bob was presented with the award by John Batley, his predecessor at Westtown.
